Teman Hidupku

Teman, siapa sesungguhnya teman dalam hidupku?

Dialah yang sangat menanti kehadiranku di dunia. Sampai aku akhirnya dilahirkan. Dia selalu menjagaku agar aku merasa nyaman.

Malam itu aku menangis. Aku ingin bilang kalau aku sedang sakit. Dia coba menenangkan. Tapi aku masih saja menangis. Diapun membawaku ke ibu bidan dan mantri. Tutup. Mencoba cari bantuan untuk menenangkanku. Sampai akhirnya aku terlelap tidur.

Aku pun kembali tertawa.

Bermain. Sekolah. Lagi-lagi, dia, masih menemaniku ke TK sambil berjualan. Aku senang karena dia tidak jauh dariku. Aku bisa jajan tanoa membayar.

Hingga aku naik ke bangku sekolah dasar. Lagi-lagi dia, dengan sabarnya menyiapkan keperluanku bersekolah. Menyetrikakan seragamku. Membuatkanku sarapan. Mengajariku PR harian. Membagi uang saku dengan penuh kehati-hatian.

Sampai dewasa waktunya, aku berkisah banyak hal tentang daerah rantauan.

Aku jauhkan pikiran tentang kehilangan. Aku masih saja memperlakukannya sebagai teman. Dia akan selalu disampingku. Tidak mungkin meninggalkan. Yang akan selalu ada untukku, dimanapun. Yang akan selalu mendoakanku, kapanpun.

Sampai pagi itu, HP penuh dengan panggilan. Kabar tentangnya datang. Dia menghadap Tuhan. Tepat satu tahun ini, dia berpulang.

Sosok teman sejak aku dilahirkan. Sosok teman yang selalu ada, tanpa meminta balasan. Sosok teman yang selalu berupaya membahagiakan.

Terima kasih, ibuku. Tenanglah bersamaNya.

Perasaan Perempuan tentang Pernikahan selama Menempuh Pendidikan

Pernikahan.

Tuntaskan. Berdarah-darahlah saat berjuang mencari ilmu. Karena di pondok itu tidak lama. Tidak selamanya. ~ Kyai Chamdani Yusuf

[Throwback] How I start my bachelor degree

Graduating from English Diploma has given me several choices which I considered as a difficult time. I had planned to continue my bachelor degree; however, I apparently met several options to decide.

Firstly, I do not have convenient transportation to go to study. At first, I chose Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta (UTY) from several schools of my survey because of the quality and the short distance. UTY staff at information desk says that all majors in Faculty of Cultural Science have been moved to first campus which is close to my boarding school. After I paid for tuition fee, I confirm to another staff which campuses I would attend. Instead of agreeing my statement, I am very shocked that the staff says my campus is probably at third campus because transfer students will take older semester. Distance is very significant since I cannot afford to have motorbike to back and forth from Islamic Boarding School to third campus for 18 km.

Knowing that my campus is far, I thought leaving Yogyakarta to study is a good choice. This dilemma situation is also supported by my mother condition who was hospitalized. Thus, I canceled to study but to help my father taking care of her. As a daughter who has finished her study for 3 years, it was my responsibility. One of my neighbors said that I supposed to be return to be with my mother because she has no one at home unless my father. That statement slammed me very much. However, I was thinking of my carrier too, so I called my old teacher to apply for a job in her private school as I could work after taking care of my mother. My old teacher shortly accepted me as her assistant to work in her office. Meanwhile, with that clear plan I made, my father surprised me to choose other way around. He asked me to leave for Yogyakarta to study because he would take care of my mother while working as a seller at stall.

I am very pleased that finally my parents really want me to study. However, I must think of how I can get to college about 9 km. I think of public transportation but after I try it, it takes time ineffectively. Also, if I calculate the fee per week, it will cost more. Saving is important since my scholarship is finished after graduating from English Diploma. Biking is the only good thing for this problem. It does not take as long as public transportation. Also, I will save more money and time that I can flexibly suit on my part-time schedule. But I wonder if I will be strong enough since I have done regularly fasting every two days. This religion practice has committed me to be consistent on every hard or tired situation for almost 2 years and a half. Thus, only do I believe that I will be fine with this choice.

Apparently, it has been a semester for my English Literature at UTY. Every day I go to college riding my new bicycle for one hour and a half on average with regular fasting. It seems hard but what I feel it is challenging. Like wise man say, “if there is a will there is a way”. It is my way to pursue my goal. Although biking is a bit tiring at first, I can simply consider it is a practice which is very beneficial for my health. Besides that, I learn how to get earlier is better since it needs more preparation to come punctual to class. Obviously, to be tough, consistent, religious and organized are characters learned until now.

To sum up, the difficult time I have experienced to conduct my study has challenged me to be a tough, consistent, religious and organized person.

Indonesia in 2040

Yeay! Our last day has just begun. Today is the end of this first period!

Hi everyone, we had a speech today. The motion are sent to us a minute before the class.

One by one students came up in front of the class. Other student is pleased to ask question. If not, a question from Mr. Harry is possible.

He comments on our speech including the ideas to deliever and what is the proper English we can use. Also, suggestion to avoid generalization e.g. instead of not developed, please use less developed; instead of not have infrustructure, please use lack of infrustructure. This is to avoid judgmental words while we are speaking.

Anyway, my speech is about A Language Preservation. Previously, we have already learned how important ideas mapping in Mr. Rafella’s class. Thus, thinking and preparing some ideas are important before speaking.

Because speaking is not about talking, it is about ideas to think.

See you again!

Listening is believing

Hi everyone! This first day of second weekend, I am really curious about what will the next activity in our speaking class, since last week Mr. Harry told us that we would have discussion about  heavier topics.

  1. He ask us to mention what kind of a good students and teacher be like.
  2. Then, he gave us a case to discuss. If you were a teacher, students are constantly talking, distracting and bothering other students. They are stubborn students. Please, tell me how you to handle the class.
  3. Please, determine the causes and solutions for this case with any possibilities.

What I get from my group presentation is that in a case, we have to find the causes so that we will find the effects.

Sometimes, the rules are made because there is no self – awareness.  What if the students are aware?

Criticizing, commenting, arguing, discussing are main cores of this speaking class. The education theme was so relevant to all of us who will be the next educators. Anyway, it is so unbelievable when Mr. Harry asked us to think of what one missing value to be a good teacher. Students gave opinion but all of them are wrong. He then told us that one missing value is listening. Of course, soon we realize that it is Listening is Believing which is printed on his T-shirt.

I, personally, am inspired joining today’s class since I got many insight from the topic and discussion.

See you again!

Moral Dilemma

Hi everyone! It is a bit hard to write everyday what happened during my classes. Here, I am trying to inform you about my classroom activity in my speaking class with Mr. Harry Isra Muhammad by reading us two examples of cases.

1. You went to work in that morning. You suddenly got involved in a two-cars-crashed. One pedestrian was killed. Other driver was getting out from his car. He confessed that he had killed one pedestrian. In fact, it was you fault killing an innocent person.

What will you do? You hide the truth or you confess the you killed the pedestrian and you will be imprisoned for five years.

2. A well-known politician had killed a person who tried to figure out his corruption cases. Both of us are the witnesses.

What will you do? Father will get death penalty. If not, you can live happily ever after. You are very close with you father for free or you.

Those are two cases today. In the first case, all of us would confess the truth. On the contrary, each group has different opinion between confessing the truth or keep silent toward his father’s big mistakes. For those who keep silent and let their father to confess himself, logically it would have never happened for a corrupter. Since he killed other people who tried to open his corruption. It is just on of the prove.

See you again!

How to survive with these items

Hi. This is the third day of our second week. We had a discussion about survival item to choose in certain situations. First, Mr. Harry sent this file to our class group this morning. Before the class, we might see what will we do during the class activity.

Dividing into 3 groups of 10 students, we discussed our four items to bring. My group consisted of four members: Rea, Tika and Icha. We decided that we brought robe, knife, hiking shoes and hunting gun. Of course, Harry criticized us about our kits with any possibilities.

After that, he gave one topic for one group. First group explained how to stay in a snake island with items he has had. Second group explained how to survive in a land which will sink soon. My group, we tried to overcome staying in a zombie island which only coming out at night.

The closing is to reach our big goals, we need some arrangements with any possibilities. Those who have carefully planned step by step will arrive. See you again!

Living with no phone and money

This is the second class. Mr. Harry was late. He looked in a hurry coming to class. However, he soon began the class and asked us to mention what was the most 5 important stuff in our daily life.

Each students informed their most five prominent things to him. He wrote the list of item and its frequency. The results showed that there were two stuff which were very important to bring i.e. money and smartphone. Then, he showed us about a picture in a bus or train. There were people looking at the window, some of them were chatting. We had to analyse what is going on with that photo.

In fact, there was relation between the most 2 important stuff an that photo. The photo took in 1999. People were still busy with their surrounding. No smartphone. No social media. No we-fie. No whatsapps.

Then, he told us to imagine what if we live without money and smartphone. Each group discussed and presented their argument. Also, other student asked questions. Most of group argument was their live getting worse when there is no phone and money.

Here, Mr. Harry already predicted that all those three activities would end in a discussion among groups in the class  by asking the most important stuff, showing a picture, and letting us imagining to survive with no phone and money.

Lat but not least, he informed us about a movie named Captain Fatanstic. It is a movie about living in a remote area depending on natural resources. So, I asked him to copy the movie since I saw the trailer really attracted me.

Are You A Good Liar?

It is our first time meeting with Mr. Harry in Speaking A. All students already known from previous tutor that he is an awardee of LPDP who will depart to US next month. Another tutor tell us how great, smart and open-minded he is.

For the first activity in speaking is introduction. The way he delivered his instructions to us is by ask us to mention 3 fun facts and 1 fake fake. Before we inform the class, we introduced our name first. After we presented our 4 facts, other student have to define which one is fake fact.

From the activity, it is not only Mr. Harry knew our name and fun facts about us, but also all students knew each other since we have just lived together for 2 weeks. We knew that Adib doesn’t use towel after taking a shower. We knew that Drian has ex-Chinese, Angga cannot sing, and Mr. Harry has Pakistanis blood.

The next activity is to be a good liar in front of the class. We are divided into a pair of group. The instruction is that we should invent excuses that we didn’t finish our homework. He gave us time to discuss. Afterwards, a pair of group presented in front of class why didn’t they work their assignment. Other pairs ask them questions and critics about their excuses.

Denny and I made excuse that she got accident just after working together in my home. He told me that we are good in a play. Other students brought topics instagram, fire, poverty, etc. The class run well. We just enjoyed the activities since it encouraged us to speak and argued during the class.

Last but not least, he said that we need to increase our curiosity since most of people feel like they already known everything, but they are not yet. Also, students can make any mistakes because it is a way they learn form the mistakes so that it is free to make any mistakes in Speaking Class. Students have to feel free to speak.
